Fishing Report - November 17th, 2022

We haven't heard a lot from people out on the lake, but there is still open water! If you are going to target walleye this week, look to pitch your jig and minnow on windblown shorelines in 10 or less feet of water. We are nearing ice season, so give it a few more tries out there before its too late!

There are still a lot of ducks in the area, but deer hunting has been the focus for most. We just got a fresh blanket of snow, so that should help hunters for this last week of rifle season!

Fishing Report - November 10th, 2022

We hope deer opener went well for everyone! We have heard good reports of people seeing deer moving. The weather is looking colder this next week, so duck hunting might be a great option if you aren't up in the stand this weekend. Either way, we wish you luck and hope you enjoy your time!

The water temps are continuing to drop and the walleye are still biting. Jig and a minnow in 5-10 feet of water is still the ticket. Look to fish windblown points and shorelines.

Fishing Report - October 27th, 2022

Ben is back with your weekly Leech Lake report! Temps are continuing to drop, and we have been hearing great things about the Walleye bite. Look to fish shoreline breaks in 4-12 feet of water. Focus your efforts on windblown areas, with a jig and a minnow. We are hearing about some fisherman having success with a lindy rig and bigger minnow, but the ticket has been that jig and minnow presentation.

If you have already hung up the fishing rods for the season, there is still opportunity to have fun on Leech as a variety of ducks have been moving in from up North.

Fishing Report - October 20th, 2022

Did you get out this past week? If not, we are getting some nice weather and another shot get fit in some awesome fall fishing on Leech Lake. Jig and a minnow bite is still the best strategy to hook into fish in about 5-15 feet of water depending on the point. It has been cold and windy all week so some warmer weather with make it more enjoyable. People are finding perch in these same areas.

If you have put away the fishing rods for the season, there is still opportunity to have fun on Leech as the ducks have been really moving in from up North.

Fall time is so hard to choose what to do. Youth deer hunting started this weekend, ducks are moving in, and the fishing is great. With warm weather have fun and as always stay safe! 

Hunting Report - October 10th, 2022

Leaves are falling, temps are dropping, and with that hunting season gets better and better! If you are looking for a good time to get in the woods, it is now! For deer hunters we are seeing more activity. Acorns are dropping and deer are feeding so focus your efforts on food sources if you are going out. Otherwise we are on track to have less leaves on the trees to get your stands up and shooting lanes cleared by MEA weekend. With the colder weather, the duck hunting is getting better as well. Mixed reports as usual, but going from 70 degrees on one day to a high of 40 the next will start moving more birds into our area.

Finally, the grouse reports are coming in strong. A lot of the public trails are producing birds. With the leaf cover still around having a dog with help a lot, but if you take your time and as leaves drop this should keep getting better as well. With that all said, get in the woods while we can! Leaves are at peak in the Walker area, more critters are moving around and it truly is a short season so take advantage. Fishing Report - September 22nd, 2022

The cold fronts are here and it is feeling like fall more and more each day. Walleye bite is going strong with that crawler and spinner bite being the most productive presentation, but don't sleep on the minnow bite as that is still picking up as water temps start to drop. Fish are moving in shallower so you can use a jig and minnow, lindy rig and minnow, or even pull shad raps in that 7-10 feet of water. The deeper humps in Walker Bay are also a spot to try with the minnow bite or any of your reaction bite type jigs.

The Muskie bite is picking up as well. More and more fish are moving to the rocks chasing moving bates. Spinners and jerk baits are working great to get them fish moving. Largemouth bass is also picking up with fish moving onto the deeper structure. Again, try baits that are moving and a bit higher in the water column. Spinners are a great tactic or lipless shads.

Finally, as for a lights out crappie bite, we haven't heard much, but the cold front this weekend and cooler weather on its way should make that bite really fire up. Fishing Report - September 1st, 2022

Labor Day Weekend is here! With beautiful weather here there there is an awesome opportunity to get out fishing.

The walleye bite is still going strong with a lot of the same summer strategies still working. We are starting to see shad raps pick up up in areas around Sand Point and other shoreline breaks, but also with cooler nights, some fish are being found out a bit deeper using strategies such as jigging raps and even a jig and a minnow. As temps start to drop this fall, this bite should only fire up. Bass bite is hot now that the rice is all grown up and these fish are moving up shallow. Boy Bay and Steamboat are two popular spots to try as this fall bass bite fires up. Finally, muskies fishing is going strong on Leech. Find the cabbage and weeds for your best chance to see some fish. On cloudier days don't be afraid to try the rocks and sand as we are hearing of fish being spotted in these areas as well.

With beautiful weather in the forecast this weekend, be sure to get out to the lake and enjoy some sun. Fishing is good and only getting better as fall approaches. Fishing Report - August 18th, 2022

Hope you have had a chance to get on Leech this summer because we are continuing our streak of great fishing. Cool weather is to thank as the lake is still sitting in that 70-73 degrees. Walleyes are active in all areas of Leech Lake. If one strategy isn't working, for sure switch because the reports of many different presentations are working. If you are in Walker Bay, try some of the middle of the lake humps in that 25-30 ft of water. Otherwise pull spinners in 12-15 feet of water with crawlers. Shoreline breaks is another spot to check out in that 8-10 feet of water with cranks. Muskie fishing is only getting better. With more people targeting them the reports are only getting better. The fish are really starting to show up on those mid lake rocks and rocky points. Still fish coming out of the thick weed cover as well. With some cloudy days ahead the fish should be more active so be sure to get out there. Bass fishing is still going strong in Steamboat Bay. As the rice continues to come up the fish are moving into those pockets. Finally, perch and panfish is heating up. With these cooler water temps the fish are active, hungry and is an awesome way to get the family out for a great time. Focus on those weed edges as this is where most of these fish are being found. Fishing Report - August 4th, 2022

Hey guys; Alice Weesey here from Reed Sports. Coming to you on the shores of beautiful Leech Lake with your weekly fishing report. It is a great time to get out there with another beautiful weekend, ahead of us. The nice thing is temperatures have been moderate, we've had nice breezes, lake water has been maintaining right around that 71-72 degrees. So the fish are very active right now. If you're heading out after some walleye, some great tips and tricks to try heading out on any of those mainly humps. They're starting to come up on. Low light either early dawn, late dusk are going to be your most prominent time to target as they tend to be a little bit more active. A lot of people having a lot of luck on the slip bobbers tipped with a leach, the crank bite is starting to pick up as well. Any of those rock ridges or main lake breaks, you're going to want to probably focus around that 18 to 25ft of water is where we've been noticing most of them on the electronics and being able to pull up a few. With that being said, simpler presentations they've been favoring most lately. In addition to making sure you get that away from the boat .Leech Lake as you know is a super clear lake and the fish get a little spooky with that. So if you have the way, like I said, slip bobbers or long line trolling, things like that, getting that bait away from the boat, you're going to have better success. And, as for you musky fishermen, they're starting to transition from the cabbage up to the rocks. They're starting to see a lot more fish found in their more common areas now such as Diamond Point, Pelican Island. You'll also start noticing them being pulled up over by the rocky reefs, over by Annex or Submarine Island .A lot of people have been having more success in follows with utilizing top waters or the blade baits. And then for you guys that's out there looking to get a mixed bag, whether you're chasing the walleye, the bass or the pan fish, a lot of luck can be found over those deeper cabbage beds still holding baits, it provides a lot cooler spot for them. Simple presentation, slip bobbers or beetle spins, things like that. We've been able to pull a few up and get a nice bag full again guys, with the sustaining water temps, beautiful weather, leach Lake is still producing and still a hot lake to come visit. So I tell you what, grab the kids, grab your gear, getup north, come talk to the experts here at Reed Sports. If you are looking for more specific locations, we'll pull out the max for you. Fishing Report - July 22nd, 2022

Hey everybody, Cory here with Reed Sporting Goods in Walker Minnesota. This is your weekly fishing report for the Walker area.

Right now it's after the 4^th of July, so we're in that middle to late July patterns on Leech Lake. Everything's kind of pushed back about a month, so the good thing is our water temps have stayed relatively cooler. We warmed up a little bit last week with the nice weather, but that's also made the fishing stay pretty darn good.

For our Walleye bite right now; you can do just about anything out here. We're pulling a lot of Northland Spinners out on the main Lake, Sucker bay, Portage bay along the weed edges. Walker bay is starting to really pick up too. We’re starting to see some fish move out to the humps, targeting the fish in the 18-25 feet depth or any shoreline breaks is where the bite has been pretty darn good. Slip Bobber fishing has also been pretty good. Focusing off of Sand Points, Sand Flats, Weed Edges and Cedar Point, up through the Walker Narrows.

Another fish that has also really been starting to bite are muskies. The muskies are really starting to pick up right now, we had some really nice warm weather last week and the lakes did warm up a little bit. The main lake rock right now really has the best spots to target, that's pretty typical for Leech Lake. Take a look around your rock reefs like Pelican, Sub, Annex, Big Rock Reef any of the South Shore Rogers point and Diamond point. The rock structure right now is holding muskies so get out there and chase those.

Bass fishing right now is also really picking up. We're finally starting to see some of the rice come up in Boy Bay and up in Steamboat Bay. Pick away at those pockets of rice right now, get in that slop and mess. Chase some of those Large Mouths. Small Mouths out of the main lake rock have been really been good as well. The Fishing Reports have been really good, so make sure you stop into Reeds and we can get a spot on the map for you, to help guide you on your next fishing excursion.

Fishing Report June 22nd, 2022

Summer patterns are starting to kick into full swing with walleyes out on Leech Lake. The bite continues to be very strong throughout the lake. We are seeing the presentation changing from a jig and a minnow to the leech and crawler bite.
Main lake rock reefs are producing many keeper walleyes along with some great slot fish too. Both Sucker Bay and Portage Bay have also had a great bite pulling slow death rigs tipped with a crawler or a spinner with a crawler.
Work the weed edges in 12-16 feet of water. Using a Lindy Rig and a Leech is another great presentation right now. With Leech Lake becoming clearer and clearer some other tactics like a slip bobber and a leech or crawler are working very well too. It’s a great way to stay away from the fish since they are very spooky with the clear water.
Walker Bay has also started to heat up. Work you shoreline breaks with a lindy rig and a leech or a bigger minnow like a Redtail or a Creek Chub. Target 15-25ft of water in the Bay. These fish are diffidently becoming more aggressive with the water temps finally warming up in the bay.
With the warm week we just had it has also triggered some of those illusive muskies. Most fish are being caught in the weeds in Portage or Sucker Bay. Anywhere you can find fresh green cabbage is a great place to start. The fresh weed growth is holding plenty of baitfish for the muskies. With the water temps increasing we also starting to see some of those fish show up on the main lake rock reefs as well.
Bass action has been superb as well. Steamboat Bay and Boy Bay have been the hot spots fishing the early rice and weed growth.

Fishing Report June 8th, 2022

Ben is here to give you an in-depth look at what is happening out on Leech Lake right now! The bite for walleye's has remained steady. Looking a little deeper and fishing the wind blown areas has seen the most success out on the lakes. We are seeing most fish caught out of 10-15' feet of water using lindy rigs with nightcrawlers and leeches.

Musky Opener saw a lot of fish show themselves but the commitment to bite was tough. Most fish have followed smaller baits, using the smaller presentation can help to get that bite from a wary muskie this time of the year!

Fishing Report June 1st, 2022

We are looking at a nice stable weather pattern this weekend, this will help the bite on Leech Lake! The evening bite has been great! Starting around 7-After Dark has been the best bite.

The lake has been clearing up, with the lake clearing up it means the fish are a little skittish. It is really important to stay off those fish and pitch up to them.

Muskie opener is this weekend, it's time to get out there and chase those big toothy critters around! It will be a great weekend for it!

The crappies are moving up, with the later spring it means that this weekend will be a great weekend to get out and chase them! Boy and Steamboat Bay have been seeing the fish move in! Goodluck this weekend and have fun on the water!

Fishing Report May 25th, 2022

The walleye bite on Leech Lake is SOLID!

Water temps are starting to heat up as Leech is starting to hit the mid 50's! Jig and a Minnow is still the go to presentation. With leeches becoming more and more available, watch for the bite to turn on!

Battle Point, Sugar, and the Duck Points are still producing fish in the shallow sand flats. We are starting to see some vegetation starting to come up with the warm waters, keep an eye on that as walleyes will start to move in.

With the rising temps, Crappies are starting to move into the shallows, we expect a hot bite to start here in the next week or two! Bait is steady, we will have a full bait report to share with you tomorrow! 

Fishing Report May 18th, 2022

Well, we made it through opening weekend!

This last weekend with walleye opener here in Walker, we saw a pretty good bite. Saturday morning we had a lot of people out that did very well. The winds really, really picked up both Saturday and Sunday. It made it a little bit tougher out there for everybody. However, it's been it's been a decent bite during the week.

The wind has been been pretty tough for people but it's also pushed a lot of these fish up shallow. Stoney point, Pine Point, Otter Tail, The Hardwoods, First and Second Duck Points have all been good. Walker Narrows has pretty shallow water still, three to eight feet of water. Still pitching jigs and minnows, the bait is still a little bit tough.

Fishing Report May 9th, 2022

Leech Lake is OPEN! We will be fishing in BOATS on opener! The high temps, wind and lots of rain have helped to remove the ice at record speeds, just in time for Walleye Opener!

Fishing Report Feb 4th, 2022

Ice conditions are great on our end if the lake. We are finding 22 plus inches currently. We have not had anybflooding issues or slush issues currently. The ice road is open to all vehicle traffic currently.
Walleye Fishing has slowed with the recent cold front. Look a little deeper 16 to 25 ft of water and down size your minnows and jigging spoons. Fish aggressive to get walleye to come in.
Perch Fishing has been steady this past week over in the miller bay area and weed edges around the lake. Look in 12 to 16 ft of water using the same techniques you would for walleye. You are going to have to sort through a lot of small perch.

Eelpout Fishing has been great during the lowlight times with lots of big fish being reported. They seem to be filling the walleye slow bite right now. They are in depths of water from 10 to 30 ft on our end of the lake.

Fishing Report Sept 30 2021 

Fall is Here!  For many, this is their favorite time to get out and enjoy the lakes or woods around the area.  Fall colors right now are spectacular and temperatures are unheard of for this time of the year.  We’ve had a beautiful week of weather around the Walker area with temps in the mid 70’s and 80 degrees.  No matter what you are doing right now fishing, hunting, biking, hiking, or sightseeing weather has been on our side. Get out and enjoy the Walker/Leech Lake area. 

Our water temps on Leech Lake were dropping pretty fast until the unusual weather moved in this week.  Temps were down around the mid 50’s last week but now have moved back into the low 60’s.  Perch action remains very good on Leech right now.  Sand Point, Walker Narrows, Grand View Flats, Agency, and Traders Bay all seem to be kicking out good numbers of perch.  A jig and a minnow still seem to be the presentation of choice.  Look in 6-10 feet of water on your sand flats in these areas.  If you can find good transitions from sand grass to sand these are great areas to start.  Any good green cabbage weeds are holding good numbers of fish as well. You will find some walleyes mixed in with the perch as well. The fall walleye bite seems to just be beginning to start.  With water temps soon to fall this should get the walleyes going.  Look around the Cedar Point, Hardwoods, 1st and 2nd Duck Point, and Stony Point areas to find some walleyes.  Again, a jig and a minnow is probably the best presentation right now.  We are finding some walleyes rigging bigger minnows like Redtails or Creek Chubs in some of the deeper water in Walker Bay as well.  Look on your shoreline breaks in 18-25 feet of water or any of the deeper humps in 25-30 feet.  Make sure you are using your electronics to scan these areas to find fish.   

With duck opener last week, we are hearing some success with the duck hunters that are around.  With the nice weather we have had, it has kept a lot of teal and wood ducks around the area.  Many of your local ducks are still around as well.  We also are hearing good reports on grouse hunting right now as well.  Brid numbers definitely seem to be on the rise with many hunters seeing and hearing birds.  Leaves are still pretty thick in the woods so it is still making it a little difficult to see some of these birds.
